Objectives of the Course Unit |
Give basic understanding on principles, fundamentals and application areas of digital image processing for the students to be familiar with Image Acquisition techniques, Image Filtering & Enhancement, Image Restoration, Color Image Processing, Wavelets & Multiresolution Processing, Compression, Morphological Processing, Segmentation, and Object Recognition. |
Contents of the Course Unit |
Digital Image Processing methods have basically two application areas which are:
1) improvement of pictorial information for human interpretation, which requires Image Filtering & Enhancement techniques,
2) processing of image data acquired for
a. storage,
b. transmission and
c. representation for autonomous machine perception
where Acquisition techniques, Wavelets & Multiresolution Processing together with Compression, Morphological processing, Segmentation and Object recognition are required.

Digital Image Processing is the basis of Image recognition applications such as face, retina, fingerprint recognition applications which are popular applications in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Mining disciplines. |
