Objectives of the Course Unit | Give basic understanding on principles, fundamentals and application areas of digital image processing for the students to be familiar with Image Acquisition techniques, Image Filtering & Enhancement, Image Restoration, Color Image Processing, Wavelets & Multiresolution Processing, Compression, Morphological Processing, Segmentation, and Object Recognition. |
Contents of the Course Unit | Digital Image Processing methods have basically two application areas which are: 1) improvement of pictorial information for human interpretation, which requires Image Filtering & Enhancement techniques, 2) processing of image data acquired for a. storage, b. transmission and c. representation for autonomous machine perception where Acquisition techniques, Wavelets & Multiresolution Processing together with Compression, Morphological processing, Segmentation and Object recognition are required. |
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education | Digital Image Processing is the basis of Image recognition applications such as face, retina, fingerprint recognition applications which are popular applications in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Mining disciplines. |
