Objectives and Contents
Objectives of the Course Unit In this course, we examine in detail the major milestones in Cyprus Conflict with a special emphasis on the process of the Cyprus inter-communal negotiations as well as on the general Cyprus peace process. After a brief introduction of the historical background of the Cyprus Conflict, we focus on the major actors' interests and positions on the fundamental issues of the Cyprus negotiations in critical milestones such as the 1977 and 1979 High Level agreements, the Set of Ideas (1992) and the Annan Plan (2002-2004): Finally, we focus on the current peace processes including the first track peace negotiations as well as other peacebuilding activities in other tracks in Cyprus. • Providing the understanding of the major milestones in the Cyprus Conflict where the students would be able to have the basic knowledge of the fundamental issues of the Cyprus Conflict and a general knowledge on the process of the Cyprus negotiations. • Creation of a safe and comfortable discussion atmosphere in which the students will get the opportunity to express themselves and relate their own thoughts and ideas with what they learn in the lectures and from other course material. • Giving each and every one of the students the chance to get involved in constructive debates with their classmates, and exercise group interaction - in other words, learning from each other.

ETIS : İstanbul Aydın University Education & Training System Cyprus Science University ECTS Information Package ECTS Information Package European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which was introduced by the European Council in 1989, within the framework of Erasmus, now part of the Life Long Learning Programme, is a student-centered credit system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme specified in terms of learning outcomes and competences to be acquired. The implementation of ECTS has, since its introduction, has been found wide acceptance in the higher education systems across the European Countries and become a credit system and an indispensable tool supporting major aims of the Bologna Process and, thus, of European Higher Education Area as it makes teaching and learning in higher education more transparent across Europe and facilitates the recognition of all studies. The system allows for the transfer of learning experiences between different institutions, greater student mobility and more flexible routes to gain degrees. It also offers a systematic approach to curriculum design as well as quality assessment and improvement and, thus, quality assurance.
