Objectives and Contents
Objectives of the Course Unit The aim of this course is to provide students with an overview of a variety of topics within the area of forensic sciences and provide an introduction to forensic nursing, and the nursing role in the scientific investigation of violence. Students will learn about various specialty areas within this discipline, including clinical forensic nursing. In addition, scientific, legal and ethical considerations are covered.
Contents of the Course Unit Forensic nursing is the practice of nursing in which health care and the legal systems intersect. Students will explore the history of forensic nursing and a variety of forensic nursing specialty roles. Skills needed for competent and holistic forensic nursing practice will be presented to care for victims and perpetrators of traumatic events or criminal acts. Impact of violence across the life-span will be ascertained. Participation in case study analysis will promote examination of personal views, open discussion on ethical and legal dilemmas, human rights, and application of critical thinking.
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education Building on nursing knowledge, skill, and experience and advance the student’s competencies of knowledge, performance skills, and values related to aspects of forensic nursing. As an emerging field, forensic nursing encompasses a body of specialized knowledge that collaborate with the field of law to apply nursing science for subsequent use in civil or criminal legal proceedings. Students will explore the proper techniques for gathering criminal and forensic evidence, including evidence testing and proper chain-of-custody management.

ETIS : İstanbul Aydın University Education & Training System Cyprus Science University ECTS Information Package ECTS Information Package European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which was introduced by the European Council in 1989, within the framework of Erasmus, now part of the Life Long Learning Programme, is a student-centered credit system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme specified in terms of learning outcomes and competences to be acquired. The implementation of ECTS has, since its introduction, has been found wide acceptance in the higher education systems across the European Countries and become a credit system and an indispensable tool supporting major aims of the Bologna Process and, thus, of European Higher Education Area as it makes teaching and learning in higher education more transparent across Europe and facilitates the recognition of all studies. The system allows for the transfer of learning experiences between different institutions, greater student mobility and more flexible routes to gain degrees. It also offers a systematic approach to curriculum design as well as quality assessment and improvement and, thus, quality assurance.
