Objectives and Contents
Objectives of the Course Unit (i) To introduce students to study of politics and political science. (ii) To highlight the major sub-fields within Political Science. (iii) To demonstrate how political science relates to other discipline in the Social Sciences. (iv) To unfold how political activities affects human society. (v) To introduce students to the various approaches to the study of politics. (vi) To explain basic concepts of political science.
Contents of the Course Unit Introduction to Politicial Science focuses on the basic principles of political science by combining historical study of the discipline's greatest thinkers with analysis of contemporary issues. We will also identify and discuss the questions that perennially drive the field of political science, including (among many others): "How do we define the changing nature of power?", "How do we differentiate between legitimate and illegitimate governance?", "What are the differences between political institutions and political behavior?", and "How do leaders define who gets to be heard and counted in a political community?". By the end of this course, you will be familiar with these issues and capable of discussing them within the context of contemporary politics.
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education Political science students can see through political games, can distinguish between hypes and trends, know how international and European policy perspectives are related, can make relevant comparisons with other countries, and can distinguish empty rhetoric from sound argumentation. Students are able to make a substantially critical and scientific contribution to government and society. Critical because students are capable of judging independently. Scientifically-based because student possess analytical skills that have been developed by the principles of scientific research. This expertise makes the student an attractive party for employers. A background in political science will also enable you to add value to corporations looking to add an employee that could give them insight into the social sciences.

ETIS : İstanbul Aydın University Education & Training System Cyprus Science University ECTS Information Package ECTS Information Package European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which was introduced by the European Council in 1989, within the framework of Erasmus, now part of the Life Long Learning Programme, is a student-centered credit system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme specified in terms of learning outcomes and competences to be acquired. The implementation of ECTS has, since its introduction, has been found wide acceptance in the higher education systems across the European Countries and become a credit system and an indispensable tool supporting major aims of the Bologna Process and, thus, of European Higher Education Area as it makes teaching and learning in higher education more transparent across Europe and facilitates the recognition of all studies. The system allows for the transfer of learning experiences between different institutions, greater student mobility and more flexible routes to gain degrees. It also offers a systematic approach to curriculum design as well as quality assessment and improvement and, thus, quality assurance.
