On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to:
1 Discover individual perspectives about end-of-life issues.
2 Apply palliative care principles to the assessment, planning and management of personalized care of the person and family requiring palliative care.
3 Discuss the basic principles of pain assessment and management at the end-of-life.
4 Identify cultural differences in end-of-life issues to adequately communicate and provide culturally competent care.
5 Discuss key ethical and legal concerns in end-of-life and palliative care.
6 Discover the challenging aspects of grief, loss, and bereavement of patients and families, as well as the loss experience of the health care professional.
