Contents of the Course Unit Contents of the Course Unit Introduction to control: open loop and closed loop control. Modelling: transfer function, block diagram, signal flow graph, state equations. Feedback control system characteristics: sensitivity, disturbance rejection, steady-state error. Performance specifications: second-order system, dominant roots, steady-state error of feedback systems. Stability: Routh-Hurwitz criterion, relative stability. The root locus method. Frequency response methods: Bode diagram, performance in the frequency domain, Nyquist stability criterion, gain margin and phase margin, Nichols chart. Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education This is an introductory course on control systems for engineering students. The subject of control systems is highly multidisciplinary: with strong foundations in engineering and mathematics, and extensive usre of the subject in mind. The aim is to present the concepts of feedback control theory. The implementation of ECTS has, since its introduction, has been found wide acceptance in the higher education systems across the European Countries and become a credit system and an indispensable tool supporting major aims of the Bologna Process and, thus, of European Higher Education Area as it makes teaching and learning in higher education more transparent across Europe and facilitates the recognition of all studies.
