Objectives of the Course Unit | The purpose of this course is to introduce students to understand the benefit/risk evaluation of drugs in order to ensure the rational use of medicines; the mechanism of adverse drug reactions and drug interactions; medication errors and their prevention and the management of substance abuse. |
Contents of the Course Unit | The primary objective of this course is to give an overview of the situation in the rational use of medicines and to advocate for education as a vital component in improving the use of medicines. Health professionals need to be trained to communicate effectively with patients on the proper use of medicines and the dangers of untoward effects. The dispenser needs to be knowledgeable in the indications of medicines, their side effects, contraindications and dosages for human use so that accurate information can be provided. This course also intends to create awareness of the challenges involved so as to motivate all relevant categories of people to find practical, realistic and innovative solutions and implement programs and activities that would ensure the rational use of medicines. |
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education | This course enables students to become familiar with the efficient use of the drug, identifying the problems that are detected at any time in the environment of medicine including both therapeutic aspects and management of resources, and its impact on society. |
