Objectives of the Course Unit | A survey of information regarding children with special needs including possible causes and characteristics of exceptionalities, educational intervention, available resources, referral processes, and the advocacy role and legislative issues. |
Contents of the Course Unit | This course introduces students to various categories of disabilities, legal and historical foundations for special education services, as well as opportunities to design and access educational resources for exceptional children within a community of collaboration and inclusion. Students will approach special needs and disability as an interaction between individual factors (such as the nature and severity of impairment, personal strengths and abilities), and structural factors (such as attitudes of others, abling or disabling environments). |
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education | This course provides students with skills to include children of all abilities through appropriate arrangement of the environment and considers broad topics of inclusion and quality of life within the social welfare system. |
