On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to:
1 Assess, plan, provide and evaluate holistic, culturally sensitive and evidence-based nursing care for patients with cancer, seeking to understand their physical, psychological and spiritual needs.
2 Appraise the physical, psychological, social and environmental issues that contribute to the onset of cancer, utilizing appropriate epidemiological evidence.
3 Explain cell biology and genetics in both the cancer process and throughout all stages of the cancer trajectory.
4 Compare and contrast the various oncologic emergencies and associated manifestations of symptoms
5 Explain the principles and application of commonly used cancer treatments.
6 Demonstrate safe and effective practice in administering, recording and disposing of chemotherapeutic and other drugs used in the care of the cancer patient.
