Objectives of the Course Unit | It develops the clinical skills of the students within the framework of the basic concepts of psychiatric nursing. |
Contents of the Course Unit | This course is the clinical component of NRS304 and NRS302. Building on the foundation of previous nursing courses and the nursing process, the student will have the opportunity to apply community nursing concepts to individuals, families, and communities through faculty and preceptor guided clinical experiences. Students will be introduced to a variety of behavioral medicine and psychological conditions in an outpatient and/or inpatient setting and will participate in psychiatric interviews and physical examinations, individual and group psychological counseling, development of management strategies for the psychiatric patient, and interpretation of diagnostic and psychological testing. Application of the nursing process within a multidisciplinary team approach is highlighted. |
