Objectives of the Course Unit | This course provides an overview of fundamental knowledge in food and nutrition. Students will learn about dietary guidelines and healthy eating; food composition including the six classes of nutrients and non-nutrient components of food; the major roles and functions of the principal nutrients and the translation of this knowledge into nutrient recommendations, dietary guidelines and recommended daily food patterns. |
Contents of the Course Unit | This course provides an integrated overview of the physiological requirements and functions of various food groups, energy, and the major vitamins and minerals that are determinants of health and diseases and reviews the nutritional and dietary requirements of humans for different periods of their lifespan and for specific physiological states. |
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education | The knowledge regarding foods and their contribution to our health will enable our students to apply it in the filed, where they will be coming across various patients and hence will be able to understand the food requirements of these individuals and advise them regarding the necessary dietary modifications. |
