Objectives and Contents
Objectives of the Course Unit To teach microorganisms, prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, comparison of the cell structures and functions, the interaction of these organisms with humans and their environment parasitic microorganisms, life cycles of parasites and host responses
Contents of the Course Unit This course covers principles of microbiology and the impact these organisms have on man and the environment. Topics include the various groups of microorganisms, identification and control of pathogens, disease transmission, host resistance, and immunity. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of microorganisms and the disease process as well as aseptic and sterile techniques.
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education The course will enable future nurses to recognize the various microbial threats facing mankind and the significance of normal flora for sustaining human health. it will also enlighten the students about the various sterilization and disinfection techniques commonly practised in healthcare settings. the students will learn about host defense mechanisms and how to prevent the spread of disease by practising immunization.
