Objectives and Contents
Objectives of the Course Unit	The objectives of the Course Unit are: 1. To provide an understanding of the basic principles of some of the major areas of international system 2. To cultivate the students’ ability to identify and analyze some of the contemporary issues involved in international legal regulations 3. To familiarize the students with the other subjects of international law (other than states) 4. To provide an insight to the students on the states responsibility on protection of the individuals and International Law related with the use of force
Contents of the Course Unit	1. Other subjects of international law: a) International Organizations b)Non-governmental organizations (civil society) c) Corporations 2. Jurisdiction privileges and immunities: Types of juristiction; Civil and criminal jurisdiction; Bases of jurisdiction; ; Extradition; Immunity from jurisdiction 3. State Responsibility; The ILC Articles and the changing discourse of state responsibility; Internationally wrongful acts; The rules of attribution; Circumstances precluding wrongfulness; consequences of breach; Invocation of state responsibility; The state’s diplomatic protection over its natural and juristic persons 4. International Law and the use of force: Development of the law on the use of force in international law; The United Nations and the post-war system of collective security; Invitation and intervention;Humanitarian intervention; Exception to the rule – self-defense and collective self-defense; Exception to the rule – Chapter VII authority of the Security Council 5. Pacific Resolution of disputes: The legal framework; Non-judicial settlement procedures (non-binding); International arbitration (binding); International Court of Justice
Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education	International law is one of the discipline that International Relations discipline wide use in explaining the issues of it. This course firstly intends to provide an understanding of the basic principles of some of the major areas of international system. It will cultivate the students’ ability to identify and analyze some of the contemporary issues involved in international legal regulations. It also familiarize the students with the other subjects of international law (other than states). Lastly it will provide an insight to the students on the states responsibility on protection of the individuals and International Law related with the use of force. All these topics will help students to have a broder understanding in international relations.
